No Moon Floods The Memory Of That Night

A short-lived, but very well-written poem nonetheless. I think it revolves around the concept that people must do what is right, whether or not people will agree with them, whether or not people will be alongside them in their endeavor. I like the imagery and hyperboles used throughout the poem setting the mood of a bad day for the writer. It is such a dark and gloomy night, that the moon cannot be seen through the storm. It is interesting to see psychology play a role in these characters. The narrator starts off by saying that a revolutionary is a doomed man, but one that should be honored and revered, which scares the woman off, not wanting any children of hers to be doomed, even though it is for a good cause. Of course, this causes a conflict with the narrator as well because he wants to fight for freedom, but loses his loved ones in the process. My favorite lines were at the end where he says:
"No moon floods the memory of that night
Only the rain I remember the cold rain
And praying that like the rain
Returns to the sky you would return to me again."

Even though he continues to pursue his goals, he still thinks of her and hopes that she will return "like the rain returns to the sky".

Never Let You Down

In my opinion, it was the most interesting poem out of these so far. I couldn't fully capture everything the poem was trying to express, but I think that what they're trying to show is that God lives in us all and that we don't necessarily have any free will, but that even though we don't have total control of what we do, we are being put to good use. My favorite lines are near the end:
"That's why my breath is felt by the deaf
And while my words are heard and confined to the ears of the blind
I too dream in color and in rhyme
So I guess I'm one of a kind in a full house
Cause whenever I open my heart, my soul or my mouth
A touch of God rains out"

I think the concept that God made us and that whatever we do or say has traces of God is pretty interesting and controversial.

I Hate Poetry

Overall, I liked the poem. I thought it was pretty interesting, having a lot of juxtaposition and basically saying things how they are. Saying that people "hate" what they love or they like what isn't good for them, such as how Alcoholics Anonymous hates liquor. My favorite lines were the last few where he says that the more he hears poetry, the more he hates it, and yet, he writes the more he hears it.

Jeremy Quach - No Moon Floods The Memory of That Night

I adore the imagery and word choices of the first stanza. It's really beautiful. The second stanza makes me think this is during the revolutionary war, and the guy wants to fight for freedom and the lady is against it and leaves him. He obviously misses her, by how emotionally he remembers this night. I really enjoyed this poem.

Knock Knock- Stephanie Gutierrez

I really enjoy both dad's and son perspective. I like how its deep and detailed.

Never Let you Down- Stephanie Gutierrez

I like how he tries to connect with us. This really catches our attention.

Jeremy Quach - I Hate Poetry

I enjoy the irony of this poem and how it recognizes the contradictory of writing a poem about hating poetry. I love the comparisons used, particularly the one about the junky hating his fix he can't afford. Very enjoyable poem!

New Moon Floods The Memory of That Night - Anibal Garza

The best way I used to understand this poem is imagining that he is talking about a past relationship with a significant other. He uses a lot of comparison on how he feels emotionally about the subject.

when i seen the title i thought it was funny because its poem but you titled it you hate poetry!
but i love how he keeps comparing it to other things

No Moon Floods the Memory of That night - Stephanie Gutierrez

Comparing the life weather to his love that has pain but now that shes gone the pain got worst because he missing her.

gifty nyafor - no moon floods the memory of the nigh

no moon floods the memory of the high

my favorite part of the poem ''only the rain i remember the cold rain  against our faces and  mixing your tears''.

Carlos Velasquez - I hate poetry.

I honestly don't think the writer hate poetry. Towards the end of the poem the writer says "And the more poetry I hear the more I hate it and the more I write it. Here I am". I think he means he loves poetry so much it has him writing more and more. He uses a lot of metaphors and I think that was very creative.

I hate Poetry - Anibal Garza

In the poem "I Hate Poetry" she talks about how much she hates it using simile to compare how much she hates it. It is a good poem because it is also ironic because at the end she says how much she hates it and in the end she's writing another poem.

Carlos Velasquez - Never let you down.

I enjoyed the lyrics of this songs. i read it over and over again. I wanted to pretend I was the one rapping it. But I love the message that he tries to get across. He tries to get in touch with us young adults.

"Never Let You Down" Tha

I like this poem because it really good for young people.  Author will try really hard for make this poem and i think many people will like this poem.

I hate Poetry - Stephanie Gutierrez

I like the way how it use metaphor. The way how he compare things that hate eachother. The way how he knows he hate it but he stills do it. Its like his mind says this but his words say this. Its amazing.

Knock Knock

The poem was very touching. Had a lot of imagery and repetition. It's a very sad situation to be used to that sort of affection or interaction with someone only to have it taken away so abruptly and for such a long time. My favorite lines were "Knock knock     Who's there?     We are". These lines refer to all the children who were able to mature and do great things without their parents and I think that's a great way of motivating people.

Why I Hate Poetry

I really like the urgency and the sounds in the lines:

"just keep off the horrors
for another hour."

Courtney's response to Knock Knock

Courtney Barker's response to Knock Knock

This poem made me feel sad and think about my dad going away. It made me tear up. If I was in the boy's shoes I would feel sad and wonder why my dad never said anything to me. It made me wonder why the father didn't at least speak to his son and tell me how he felt.

knock knock-- tha

I like this poem because it make me feel sad.  I sad because he don't have a dad so many people like this boy. this poem positive to my life because this boy don't have but i don't have mom.

Carlos Velasquez- Knock, Knock

This poem was very deep. It touched my heart. It was so deep it made my teacher tear up. I still have my father with me and he plays a major role in my life so I can't relate to this poem. But as I was reading the poem I put myself in the sons shoes, and it made me realize how hard it will be the day I lose my father. My father made me to the young man I'am today and just by reading Knock, Knock it made me fear losing my father even more.

Jeremy Quach - Knock, Knock

I liked Knock, Knock! It communicated really deep and moving emotions, and I enjoyed having both the son’s and dad’s perspective. Though it didn’t relate to me very much, as I don’t know my father, it’s still an enjoyable poem. My favorite lines are “knock knock down doors of racism and poverty that I could not/knock knock doors of opportunity.”

Jeremy Quach - Never Let You Down

I really enjoyed Never Let You Down, partly because I love the song this verse is from. J. Ivy spits game about how his religion inspires him and his music, and he uses his “hymns from Him” to express himself and touch others. My favorite line is “cats think I’m delirious, but I’m so damn serious,” because I personally enjoy the imagery of a cute cat looking at him and tilting its head in confusion, even though I know that’s not what that line actually means.

i think this poem is very creative when it comes to the comparison part. also i like how he is trying
to connect with us young people today. and going into detail about everything.
Ricky Morris response to Knock Knock

I think this poem is very touching. Many kids have lost their parents in the time of trouble. I think this poem really reached out to people that are lost and saddened. You can buy anything but family is irreplacable.

Anibal Garza - Never Let You Down

I really enjoyed this poem but its not my favorite, my favorite line of the poem is you don't need a curriculum to know that you're apart of the math. It is a strong line that states that you can don't need obvious signs to know that you're apart of something bigger.

Welcome students and teachers from Grandview High School, Harmon High School and Paseo Academy!  We are excited to work with you on this project with Park University and The Symphony!

Your first assignment is to tell us a little about yourself and why you are interested in poetry.

After that, each week you will read a poem (chosen by your class or your teacher), and share how the poem spoke to you, how you interpret it, what it causes you to feel, or anything else you would like to share with the group!
